Kenyans on social media have expressed shock at the suffering that two Kenyans had to endure for more than two years after they were captured by terror group Al-Shabaab.

One of the two men who were rescued last week deep inside Somalia by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) narrated his ordeal to the Nation on Tuesday, drawing sympathy from readers.

The readers urged the government and NGOs to give Mr Daniel Njuguna Wanyoike, 28, specialised psychological treatment to help him recover and lead a normal life.

They also expressed interest in helping him start life afresh and supported the government’s move to crush the terror group.

One reader identified as Lenny said: “I believe this man has gone through unspeakable torture and hardship. DN (Daily Nation) please let us know how we can help him financially so that he can rebuild his mind and his life again. This is a very emotional story for me and I believe most if not all of your readers”.

The same sentiments were shared by Thigio1234, who asked Maendeleo ya Wanaume to take the initiative and organise counselling and medical attention for the man.

TripleA said: “Dear Kenyans, I am traumatised by Njuguna Wanyoike’s story, Please Nation, please offer details of how we can assist. I feel he is a broken man, Al-Shabbab must have done some awful things to him”.
