David Makali joins Amani after ditching Labour Party

Former Labour Party of Kenya Secretary-General David Makali has joined Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC).
Mr Makali was received at the ANC headquarters in Lavington by top party officials who included the head of Mr Musalia Mudavadi's presidential campaign secretariat, Mr Godfrey Kanoti.
He at the same time enrolled as a life member of the party and immediately paid nomination fees.
He will be vying for the Bungoma senate seat.
ANC Secretary-General Godfrey Osotsi described Mr Makali as a prized catch and reiterated the party's support for his bid.
The veteran journalist resigned from the Labour Party on Monday allegedly over differences with other officials over political affiliation.
He said he had settled on ANC after broad consultations with his supporters and the top leadership of the party.
Mr Makali said he had found a suitable home to champion the aspirations of the people of western Kenya and promised to support Nasa.
"The people of Bungoma have spoken. I am looking forward to hand ANC the first Senate seat," Makali said.
Bungoma County ANC secretary Martin Waliaula welcomed Mr Makali’s move.
"Makali is joining his supporters who have already crossed (over) to ANC. He is the one who was late. We look forward to growing and expanding the party in the region with him," he said.
