Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday.

Ms Waiguru was summoned by the commission to shed light on corruption allegations in her ministry.

A letter from the EACC to Ms Waiguru seen by the Nation stated that the commission “is investigating allegations touching on financial improprieties at the State department of Planning and the National Youth Service in the procurement of goods, works and services”.

There have been calls for the embattled Cabinet secretary to step aside to allow for investigations into the alleged loss of Sh791 million in the National Youth Service (NYS), and into recent revelations of procurement irregularities.

Ms Waiguru has maintained she is innocent in the NYS saga, insisting she was the whistle-blower.
