Man in recovery as doctors fail to remove bullet in boy’s chest

Doctors have not removed a bullet lodged in the chest of an eight-year-old boy who was shot when police battled youth in Kisauni, Mombasa on Thursday.

The victim, Rajab Mohamed, a pupil at Kengeleni Primary School, was caught in the cross-fire when police raided Magodoroni in Soko Mjinga, which is said to be a den for criminals.

Another man, 29-year old Mr Kitsao Katana was also shot seriously injuring his private parts. The matatu conductor was rushed to the Coast Provincial General Hospital where he is still nursing his injuries.

On Friday, Kisauni OCPD Richard Ngatia said he had sent his officers to the hospital to carry out more investigations on the matter.

“I have no comment for now, let us do our investigations before we give out any comments,” said Mr Ngatia.

Coast Police Commander Francis Wanjohi said on Thursday the boy and the man were shot by stray bullets when police were chasing the youth.

According to the boy’s mother, Ms Khadija Swaleh, her son was taken to the theatre on Thursday but doctors’ efforts to remove the bullet were unsuccessful.

She accuses the police of being reckless and wants justice for her boy.
