Doctors have threatened a nationwide strike if problems facing their colleagues in Kiambu County, who have been on strike for 10 days, are not addressed.

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) secretary-general Ouma Oluga said they had given the County Government of Kiambu and Health ministry five days notice to find a solution.

“In the event this is not done, the union will have no option but to mobilise for a nationwide doctors’ strike,” said Dr Oluga.

Doctors in Kiambu are demanding the immediate payment of salary arrears, change of terms of employment in line with the Public Service Commission code and promotion of all practitioners who are due.

“We want to remind the County Government of Kiambu that it must not revise the terms of employment to the disadvantage of any doctor because the Constitution, Transition Authority and PSC are very clear on the terms of employment for seconded officers,” he said.

Dr Oluga said the problems affecting doctors in Kiambu were also prevalent in most counties.
