There was drama at the Lang'ata Police Station in Nairobi when a former officer was found lying at the entrance to the station and covered in sacks.

Police officers reporting for early morning duty on Wednesday found the ex-officer, who appeared to be in distress and calling out to them to take him to Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet’s office so that he could get back his job.

Lang'ata OCPD Elijah Maina said the former policeman, Charles Kamau, 33, resigned in January but has been hanging around the station.

“He has been seen around the station [several times] where he purports to be a preacher. He usually carries both the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible,” Mr Maina said.

He said that before the 33-year-old man resigned, he used to work in the station commander's (OCS) office and did not show any signs that he was frustrated.

"He did not remove all his clothes. He appears disturbed and has been walking around. We have contacted the family and they have taken him for medical attention,” he said.
