Mr Hassan Bare, a businessman in Garissa County, claimed that soldiers in two Toyota Land Cruisers pounced on him at the main gate of the Nomad Hotel, which is owned by his family.
The Nation Monday called and sent a text message to military spokesperson Col David Obonyo but there was no comment from him on Mr Bare’s claims by the time we went to press.

Mr Bare said he had arrived from Nairobi and was waiting at the gate when the soldiers struck and bundled him into one of their jeeps and drove him to the forest.

Mr Bare said the officers pulled him out of his car at the gate and forced him to lie on his belly on Kismayo Road in front of the hotel before he was blindfolded and beaten with truncheons. He showed reporters injuries on his thighs and back.
