The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has authenticated a letter circulated on social media Sunday stating that it has no evidence implicating former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru in corruption.

A spokesman for the EACC told the Nation on Monday morning that the letter clearing Ms Waiguru was indeed written by their chief executive, Halakhe Waqo.

“The status letter on Ms Waguru to Head of Public Service is genuine and we have written similar letters on other senior officers and for junior to middle level. We write to their institutions,” said Mr Kairichi Marimba, the head of corporate communications at the EACC.

He suggested the investigation has been closed as he added: “However, if new evidence becomes available, investigations will continue.”

Addressed to Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua by Mr Waqo, the letter is dated February 4—Thursday last week—and is stamped “confidential” in capital letters at the top and the bottom.

It reads: “The Commission has conducted investigations on various allegations touching on National Youth Service and the Ministry of Devolution and National Planning. So far our investigations have not established any evidence to warrant an adverse recommendation against the former Cabinet Secretary Ms Anne Mumbi Waiguru.”
