  • Bishop Wabukala said that corruption and organised crime are symbiotic and tackling one would cripple the other.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is targeting both givers and receivers of bribes to minimise corruption in the country, chairman Eliud Wabukala said Thursday morning.

Mr Wabukala said the commission is creating guidelines for fighting graft in the private and public sectors.

Speaking in a meeting with representatives from the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), he said that for a long time the fight against corruption concentrated on public offices though the private sector is also implicated in bribe giving.

"We must look at this carefully because in a bribery case, there is a giver and a taker," he said.

He further said that corruption and organised crime are symbiotic and tackling one would cripple the other.

His sentiments were echoed by KAM head Flora Mutahi, who said the private sector contributes to policy making in society.

The body met stakeholders and the anti-graft agency chairman Sarova Stanley hotel in Nairobi to discuss the importance of the Bribery Act.
