Hospitals prepare for deadly virus

Some county governments are setting up isolation wards in their district hospitals to deal with an Ebola outbreak.

Mombasa County Health Director Dr Khadija Shikely told the Nation on Monday that the wards have been prepared at the Tudor District Hospital.

She said that the county government and the airport authority have secured a special area for handling any cases of the deadly virus.

TRAINED PERSONNEL

Dr Shikely added that the county has trained personnel responsible for screening passengers coming into the country through the Moi International Airport.

In Bungoma, the county’s Health executive, Mrs Grace Khayota, said two special wards are ready at the Lwakhakha border and at the Bungoma District Hospital.

She said health stakeholders in the region are not taking chances, considering that Bungoma is along the border with a neighbouring country.

Mrs Khayota said that a team of doctors and nurses has already been constituted and is on standby to deal with any emergence of the lethal virus.
