Kisumu Boys High School students on Tuesday went on the rampage in the town, damaging property.

They took to the streets after learning that their sister school, Kisumu Girls, had performed better in last year’s exam and were out in town celebrating.

The girls had taken to the streets after the results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination showed they had secured a 0.6 improvement to bring their mean grade to 9.8.

Burning with envy, the boys poured onto the streets vandalising vehicles and business premises in an apparent bid to spoil the party for the girls.

There has been a history of competition and rivalry between the two schools over who performs better in Form Four examinations.

Mr Silvance Owiti, a Kisumu resident said that his car was vandalised by the Kisumu Boys students.

“I have reported to the school principal, Mr Dennis Abok,” he said.

Mr Abok could not be reached for comment.
