40 students off to world’s top varsities

Forty youths have received scholarships worth Sh680 million to study in leading universities worldwide.

Equity Bank chief executive officer James Mwangi on Monday issued flight tickets to the beneficiaries.

He urged them to remain focused on their studies.

The institutions that have admitted the students include the University of Arizona, Yale University, the University of Toronto, Harvard University, McGill University and Stanford University.

This brings the total number of scholars studying abroad under the Equity African Leaders Programme (EALP) to 190.

TOP PERFORMERS

The programme, which is ran by the bank, targets the top performing boy and girl in the secondary school final examination or university entrance test in all regions where the bank operates.

Rolled out in 1998, the EALP is a rigorous internship-based leadership development programme, which aims at creating a community of talented leaders who could solve the world’s problems.
