Kenyans should brace for rainy and wet conditions following the onset of the October to December short rains.

Meteorological Department’s deputy director Peter Ambenje Tuesday said Nairobi and central Kenya would experience cloudy mornings and light rains in the next five days.

“Wet conditions will be sustained in western, including Nyanza regions, Trans Nzoia and Pokot, central Rift, parts of south Rift (Bomet, western parts of Narok), central Kenya and Nairobi area...

“Heavy rainfall is likely in Trans Nzoia and Pokot in the first two days of the forecast period,” said Mr Ambenje, who is in charge of forecasting.

Wet conditions are also expected to be maintained in the northern parts bordering Ethiopia.

“The coastal zone and parts of north-eastern (Garissa and Wajir) are likely to observe an increase in cloud cover, with some light to moderate rainfall in the first three days of the forecast period,” added the deputy director.

Mr Ambenje said the short rains season had set in and was gradually establishing over various parts of the country.

“Light to moderate rainfall commenced last Wednesday in Marsabit, Narok, Nyeri, Laikipia, parts of Central Kenya and Nairobi area,” he said.
