A fake policeman was shot dead in Kayole, Nairobi. on Wednesday
The man earned a living by 'arresting' and detaining his victims in his car and forcing them to part with money.
Police officers in Kayole signalled a car to stop but its driver waved a pistol and started firing, according to a police report.
He then alighted and attempted to run away, the report added.
“The officers gave chase and were later reinforced by others from Buruburu and managed to fatally injure the suspect,” the report also said.
The vehicle was later searched and a Browning pistol loaded with five bullets was found.
Also found was a fake police identification card bearing the names Corporal Jackson Kilonzo.
Other items recovered were a pair of handcuffs, a walkie talkie, two mobile phones, a pair of vehicle registration plates and an insurance sticker.
In another police shooting in the neighbouring Soweto, three suspected gangsters were shot by police after they had broken into a bar.
The three who were in the company of six of their colleagues, broke into African Brothers Pub when the owner raised alarm.
Police who were in the vicinity responded.
According to the police, the suspects had stolen a television set and alcohol. A homemade gun was seized at the scene with two rounds of ammunition.
Elsewhere, at Maji Mazuri, Kasarani, a 30-year old man was lynched by a mob.
Police said the man had been found with a stolen motor vehicle.
