  • Waiganjo said he has been a police reservist since 2000 and was promoted in 2003, and that is why he had the uniform. “I was appointed as an assistant commissioner of police-reservist by a Mr Peter Kimanthi and given a number 108085,” he told the court.

The man charged with being a fake policeman has been jailed for two years for having police uniform illegally.

Joshua Karianjahi Waiganjo, 52, who was jailed Thursday, is facing other charges of impersonating a senior police officer in Naivasha and Nyeri.

A Naivasha court heard that Waiganjo was found with the uniform after police raided his house at Kabati in Naivasha on October 31, 2004.

The uniform included two pairs of black boots, brown and blue lanyards, two pairs of shirts, two pairs of police uniform and a jungle uniform.

Waiganjo said he has been a police reservist since 2000 and was promoted in 2003, and that is why he had the uniform. “I was appointed as an assistant commissioner of police-reservist by a Mr Peter Kimanthi and given a number 108085,” he told the court.

Naivasha Resident Magistrate Selina Muchungi jailed him for two years.

Waiganjo came into the limelight after accompanying senior policemen to Baragoi in Samburu County early this year.

This was the first time Waiganjo was being jailed and faces others charges.

In January, he was charged with impersonating the Nakuru deputy provincial police boss.

Waiganjo was arrested on New Year’s eve. A commission was set up to investigate him and after several hearings recommended the prosecution of former Rift Valley provincial police officer John M’Mbijiwe and former anti-stock theft unit commandant Remy Ngugi.

The two have denied abuse of office charges.

Waiganjo has other cases and is expected in a Nyeri court Saturday.

He is currently detained at the Naivasha Maximum Security Prison.
