A family in Kianjuri village, Imenti North Sub county in Meru is crying for justice after their seven year old was allegedly defiled and murdered in a coffee plantation two weeks ago.

A mood of sorrow engulfed the village as the deceased who was a class one pupil at Irinda Primary school was laid to rest in a burial ceremony attended by North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood on Saturday.

The deceased is said to have gone missing on January 19 and her body found on January 23 in a coffee plantation.

Ms Judith Muriuki, the girl’s aunt, said she went missing from home shortly after her mother had sought authority to transfer her to another school in South Imenti.

DUMPED IN COFFEE PLANTATION

“On the fateful day, her mother went to school seeking for a transfer letter. She came home with her daughter only for the girl to go missing after some hours. She could not to be traced until five days later when her body was found dumped in a coffee plantation. It is a horrible experience for the family,” Mrs Muriuki said.

Mr John Mutea, a neighbour, claimed that the girl seemed to have been raped before being murdered and that her body had bruises on the neck.

“She seemed to have been raped and later strangled to death. We want the government to pursue the matter and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. The police should intensify security patrols in this area because parents are worried of their school going children," he said.

The family now wants police to speed up investigations and arrest the suspects to give justice to the family.

Mr Dawood urged the residents to embrace the “Nyumba Kumi” security initiative. He told the residents to give information regarding the incident to enable arrest of perpetrators
