The family of a woman who died after being detained at an Administration Police post last week has disputed the results of the post mortem revealing she had no physical injuries.

Preliminary autopsy report, given out Tuesday, indicates that Mercy Nanjala, 25, was not beaten or raped even as the family insists she had visible injuries on her chest, left breast and right side of the neck, on the day she was picked from the Mariguini Administration Post.

She died on March 9, after spending the night at the AP post where she had been detained for allegedly stealing her friend Emily Wasike’s mobile phone.

Ms Wasike has since disappeared and a salon she used to operate is vacated.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been incorporated in the investigations into the death of the restaurant worker.

Officers from the two bodies were at the City Mortuary on Tuesday, where the autopsy was being conducted.

In spite of the Administration Police posts not having gazetted cells, Mercy was still detained at the facility situated in South B.

That was from 5pm on March 8 to 5am on March 9 when a police officer contacted her sister using the number; 0713869645, asking her to go pick her from the cells.

“When I arrived at the post, I found AP officers and they showed me where my sister was. She was lying on the floor and did not respond when I called her name,” her younger sister, Philis Amutavi said.

She shook her and realised that she was unconscious.

She then requested the APs to allow her to go fetch a neighbour so that she could carry her sister home.

The AP officers agreed to let her look for assistance, but not before forcing her to clean the floor where her sister was lying.

She then wrapped Mercy in a blanket, hired a taxi and took her to Mbagathi Hospital where she was admitted. She was confirmed dead at 11am.
