Former deputy speaker Farah Maalim was on Thursday questioned by anti-terrorism detectives after he claimed the government is behind terrorism incidents in parts of the country.

Police claim he implied that the government orchestrated explosions in which innocent people died, in a bid to hoodwink and gain favour from the United States and Europe.

A non-apologetic Maalim repeated the remarks he first made in a live TV show on Wednesday, when he spoke to journalists outside the ATPU offices immediately after the session with detectives.

PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE

He was summoned for questioning by ATPU boss Boniface Mwaniki.

“The (TV) show is a matter of public knowledge. I said it is possible that the government is doing some of these things because it wants to carry favour with the Western world. I have no regrets about it and will repeat it over again,” Mr Maalim said.

He arrived at the ATPU office at 11.30am in the company of his lawyer Harun Ndubi.

“They are investigating him for the offence of incitement ostensibly on what he said on Cheche — a TV programme. We have recorded a statement choosing to say nothing because it is a right under the Constitution,” he said.
