Services at the Kenya Ports Authority and the Kenya Ferry Services remain paralysed following a strike by 6,000 members of the Dock Workers Union.

The workers are protesting against the new National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) rates.

Senior managers were forced to man toll stations to charge motorists using ferries to cross the Likoni channel.

The union's secretary-general, Simon Sang, said the NHIF contributions are being deducted from employees’ gross pay but the union wants them taken out of their basic pay.
