Five suspects arrested for allegedly undressing and sexually assaulting a woman in Nairobi’s Kayole estate appeared in court Thursday.

They did not plead to charges as one of them is deaf and mute and requires an interpreter.

The accused are Mr Samuel Karanja, Mr Zachary Gitonga Nderitu, Mr Kelvin Njuguna Wainaina , Mr David Kinuthia Mbathi and Mr Hosea Kasim, who is deaf.

They appeared before a Makadara court and will be charged Friday with indecently assaulting the woman (name withheld).

The 23-year-old is still recovering in a city hospital, according to court documents filed in the case.

The prosecution says the suspects intentionally touched the woman’s private parts against her will.

The incident occurred along Mihango Stage in Kayole on November 17.
