Freak lorry accident kills five in Murang'a

Five people were killed in a freak lorry accident Monday in Kiria-ini, Murang’a County.

Three others, who suffered minor injuries, were treated at the Kiria-ini Hospital and discharged.

The three-tonne truck was transporting mangoes to Kagicha Market when the midday accident occurred.

According to witnesses, the truck was on a steep slope when it suddenly started to moving backwards downhill.

The five people, who were at the back, were thrown out of the moving lorry. They all died on the spot.

Police and wananchi had a tough time pulling the bodies from under the lorry.

Local police boss Charles Mutua said investigations into the accident had started.

“Three survivors were treated for minor injuries, but unfortunately, the other occupants, who were at the back of the lorry, died on the spot,” said Mr Mutua.
