Several people travelling to Malindi by Kenya Airways were Sunday stranded for hours after their flights were delayed.

Among those who were inconvenienced by the flight delays was lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi who took to Twitter to pour out his frustrations.

Nation confirmed from Kenya Airways staff who requested not to be named that the Malindi flight was delayed due to operational issues.

One of the staff said the 2:55pm flight had delayed to take off.

“Stranded at JKIA. Was to fly to Malindi 3 hrs ago but looks like KQ has no pilots to fly the aircraft...legacy ya Naykuni?” Mr Ahmednassir tweeted.

He said he had checked in at 12.30pm. “Five hours later still grounded,” he tweeted.

Travellers who were also scheduled to travel on the 4pm flight from Malindi were subjected to similar frustrations as their flight was delayed.

Some of the infuriated travellers said they had gone through the same experience on Saturday when the scheduled flights on the same route were delayed for hours.

Kenya Airways through its Twitter handle apologized to one of the customers, Mercy Njuguna who had complained.

“Hello, we apologize for the inconvenience and assure you of our endeavour to serve you better. The flight was delayed out of Nairobi but should be in Malindi anytime now,” it said in its tweets.

Another traveller said he was stranded at JKIA after his flight to Dubai for a business meeting was cancelled.

“This KQ is a fraud. I hate videoconference,” he tweeted.

Mr Abdullahi had tweeted that there was a crisis at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as many flights had been cancelled and hundreds of passengers were stranded.

Another tweet read, “What is happening at JKIA, the information boards are blank and hundreds of passengers are stranded.”
