Five killed after matatu plunges into Mbagathi River

Athi River OCPD said the driver of the matatu drove off the highway to use an adjacent road to avoid traffic jam.

“The road was used as a diversion during the construction and it’s narrow at the bridge,” he said.

He said the matatu collided with a lorry on the bridge and fell into the river.

The matatu was heading to Athi River from Machakos.
