Five things to look out for today

  1. High Court Judge Msagha Mbogholi will appear before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to be interviewed for the post of Chief Justice.

    Justice Mbogholi will be the second candidate to appear before the JSC after Justice Alnashir Visram was grilled on Monday. On Wednesday, Kisumu Court of Appeal Presiding Judge David Maraga will also appear before the panel.

    On Monday, the High Court ruled that the JSC must include the eight people it left out of the list when it shortlisted six for the interviews.

  2. President Uhuru Kenyatta will open the new-look Nairobi County Assembly chambers.

    The new chamber will have a sitting capacity of 150 members. It will also sit 48 guests, while the Speaker’s Lounge will accommodate at least 69 people.

  3. The Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCoG) and the Kenyans for Peace with Truth and Justice (KPTJ) will today release a perception survey, focusing on Constitutional Implementation and Elections.
  4. At 9am, Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli will open a regional trade union summit at the Sarova Stanley Hotel.
  5. Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and Council of Governors chairman Peter Munya will at 10am launch the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee strategic plan.
    The committee took over from the Transition Authority and is tasked with ensuring a smooth relationship between the National Government and the 47 county governments.
