Police have arrested a United Nations Environment Programme employee accused of beating and injuring his ex-wife.
Mr Alphonse Kambu was arrested at Garden Estate in Kasarani, Nairobi, at 9.30am on Wednesday.
He had returned home after dropping off a child at school, area police boss Robinson Mboloi said.
Mr Mboloi said they had people search for Mr Kambu, a Papua New Guinea national, since his ex-wife was hospitalised after he allegedly beat her.
“We are questioning him. We will arraign him in court on Thursday on assault charges,” Mr Mboloi said.

Ms Gakii alleged that Mr Kambu assaulted her after he dropped off their son home.
She claims he was intoxicated when he beat her. She reported to Kiamumbi Police Station.

The two separated in 2012. A court awarded Ms Gakii full custody of their son.
The Nation has also learnt that the suspect picked up the child from Ms Gakii’s house after she was hospitalised and stayed with him at an undisclosed location.
At the height of the outrage, the Unep promised to cooperate with Kenyan authorities stating its employee ‘acted out of official duty’ and was therefore not entitled to diplomatic immunity.
In a statement, the UN agency stated that Mr Kambu is its employee working as a legal officer in the division of environmental law and conventions.
