Former 'Nation' columnist Betty Caplan dies in London

Former Daily Nation columnist and veteran teacher Betty Caplan, in her late 60s, died in London on Sunday.

Ms Caplan, an Australian citizen, lived and worked in Kenya for several years.

Her first teaching job in Kenya was at the Imani International School school in Thika.

She later taught at Hillcrest School in Nairobi and was best known for her love of art.

DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER

Ms Caplan relocated to her hometown Melbourne in Australia, but is said to have found the pace of life too predictable.

She then got a teaching job in Turkey, where she lived until she was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago.

Ms Caplan leaves behind two daughters and several grandchildren who live in the UK.
