Former immigration boss to be charged

Former acting Director of Immigration Services Jane Waikenda now faces abuse of office charges after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission recommended her prosecution.

Ms Waikenda joins the list of former senior government officials facing charges for corruption-related offences, according to the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko.

Also facing prosecution is Mr Abraham Mwaura, who was in charge of permits.

Mr Tobiko said EACC recommend that the two be charged following inquiries into allegations of irregular issuance of permits.

Also facing similar charges are eight former judicial officials, including former registrar of the Judiciary Gladys Shollei.

They were investigated on allegations of irregular payment of over Sh46 million for construction of pre-fabricated courts in Mavoko by the Judicial Service Commission.

Other former Judiciary officers to be charged are Kakai Kissinger (deputy chief registrar), Martin Otieno Okwata (director supply chain) and Finance director Benedict Abonyo Omollo.

Mr Wycliff Wanga Obunde, Mr Nicholas Muturi Okemwa, Mr Nicholas Mbeba and Mr Thomas Oloo Atak were members of the tender committee are also facing prosecution.

Ms Shollei, whose dramatic exit from the powerful position captured national attention, could be hauled to court once more, having already been in the dock over another high profile case.

In August, Ms Shollei and her colleagues, who held various positions in the Judiciary when the cases came up, were in court on charges touching on irregular procurement of a Sh310 million modern residence for the CJ.
