Fred Matiang’i in rigging plan, claims Raila Odinga

National Supper Alliance flag bearer Raila Odinga has claimed that acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was working closely with the poll agency to rig the forthcoming General Election.

Mr Odinga, while addressing a rally at Woodley grounds in Kibra on Tuesday, claimed that Dr Matiang’i has had several meetings with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission under the pretext of discussing security matters but top on the agenda has been rigging plans.

“Matiang’i is the point man of Jubilee in Nyamira County and therefore he’s acting on their interest and not that of the public, Matiang’i is part of Jubilee and we will not allow him to interfere with institutions such as IEBC,” the Nasa flag bearer said.

WANGUSI

Dr Matiang’i was appointed by President Kenyatta as acting Interior CS following the death of Maj Gen (rtd) Joseph Nkaissery.

The opposition leader also told off Communication Authority director general Francis Wangusi over his directive that no media house will be allowed to transmit election results before the IEBC saying the high court had already made a determination that results announced at the constituency level are final and can be announced by any other person.

“Mr Wangusi is a civil servant and should stick to his mandate... if he wants to join politics he should come to the political arena and therefore his directive is nonsense,” he said.

TALLYING CENTRE

The ODM party leader maintained that the opposition will have its tallying centre and announce results as declared in the constituencies.

On Monday, Mr Wangusi said they are aware that some of the media houses are planning to release results before IEBC releases them which he said is against the law.

“We are telling media houses planning to release the results ahead of IEBC to stop. This is because IEBC is the only body mandated to release the results,” he said.

Mr Odinga also pointed out that an unfavourable business environment coupled with the high level of corruption witnessed under the Jubilee government has ruined the economy.

“These people in government do not know how to run the economy and that explains why we are doing badly in economic growth,” he said.

NYS SCANDAL

The opposition leader also revisited the National Youth Service scandal where Sh1.8 billion was lost saying both President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were fully aware of the scandal but did nothing to stop it.

“The people who stole the money have said publicly that they did so on behalf of President Kenyatta and his deputy,” Mr Odinga claimed.

Citing the slum upgrading program launched in Kibra by Jubilee, the ODM leader said the project was a conduit of siphoning money and there was no will of bringing development in the area.

He was accompanied by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, Kibra MP Ken Okoth and a host of other leaders.

NASA LEADERSHIP

Mr Musyoka said the country is yearning for Nasa’s leadership as majority of Kenyans have suffered under the reign of jubilee.

“We have moved around this country and I can assure you that people are tired with jubilee and want change,” he said.

Mr Muthama said the opposition has this time round sealed all loopholes that can be used by jubilee to rig the forthcoming elections.
