A suspected robber was shot dead after snatching a mobile phone and money from Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s bodyguard on Monday.

A homemade pistol with two rounds of ammunition was seized from the suspect, whose two accomplices escaped on foot.

The bodyguard, Sylvester Ambasa, told police that he had parked his vehicle on the side of a road in Dandora Phase Two when he was accosted by a three-man gang on a motorcycle.

The three threatened the bodyguard using a gun then robbed him of his mobile phone and Sh5,000 in cash, before escaping using the motorcycle.

Mr Ambasa, a licensed firearm owner, chased after the three on foot while firing towards the gang.

Officers who were on patrol responded and managed to gun down one of the suspects while the other two escaped.
