Gatundu South MP Joseph Ngugi Nyumu died of a massive heart attack, according to a postmortem report.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Gatanga MP Humphrey Njuguna, who is chairing the burial committee, said there was no foul play in the legislator’s sudden death.

“We have to accept the postmortem results although our departed friend did not have a history of heart disease,” Mr Njuguna said yesterday after attending a prize giving ceremony at Kiunyu Girls Secondary School in his constituency.

Mr Nyumu, 41, collapsed and died at his home in Runda, Nairobi. He will be buried at his Gitare village home, Gatundu, on Friday.

“We were very close and even went to the gym together. I didn’t know him to have any health problems. We are all very shocked but we have to accept the outcome,” Mr Njuguna said.

He appealed to the public not to speculate on the MP’s death now that the cause of death was confirmed.

The postmortem results coincided with what doctors told the family on Wednesday when the MP died.

Detectives took samples from the MP’s house after his death in what they said was meant to “remove any doubts” over the death.
