Germany to finance Sh12.7 billion energy, water projects in Kenya

Germany will grant Kenya Sh12.7 billion (€107 million) to finance geothermal and water projects.

The German Development Banks (KfW) will grant Geothermal Development Company Sh9.5 billion for electricity projects in the Lake Bogoria and Silali areas in the north and central Rift Valley.

This includes the drilling of 20 wells at the Bogoria-Silali electricity project.

Another Sh2.9 billion will be used to improve water supply in Nairobi city in a project that is set to benefit four million people.

The German government will also grant Sh272 million to Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company for capacity building.

A statement from the German embassy stated that National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and German envoy to Kenya Andreas Peschke will sign an agreement on the funding of the projects Thursday.

Last year, Germany committed €138 million to finance projects in Kenya.
