  • The couple were charged in 2004 after 11 “miracle babies” were repossessed from their house in Nairobi’s Komarock.
  • Before the prosecution sought adjournment for lack of witnesses on Monday, a doctor and children’s officer testified against the couple.

A couple linked to the Deya miracle babies saga on Monday protested the delay in concluding a 10-year-old case in which they are charged with stealing 11 children.

Mr Michael Odero and his wife Edda Anyango Odero through their lawyer John Swaka criticised the prosecution for seeking a further adjournment, prompting a magistrate to order that all remaining witnesses in the case be available for the next hearing date or the case be closed without their testimony.

The couple were charged in 2004 after 11 “miracle babies” were repossessed from their house in Nairobi’s Komarock estate after Ms Anyango, who was 65 years old at that time, sensationally claimed she had delivered them miraculously.

Before the prosecution sought adjournment for lack of witnesses on Monday, a doctor and children’s officer testified against the couple.

The “miracle” babies saga — the brainchild of Archbishop Gilbert Deya — shot the limelight in February 2004 after Ms Anyango claimed to be the mother of the 11 children aged between one and three years.

Investigators ruled out their claims and linked them to a child trafficking network. The hearing continues.
