Githu Muigai’s wife among 11 new judges

Attorney-General Githu Muigai’s wife is among 11 new judges appointed to the High Court by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mrs Margaret Waringa Muigai was one of the 25 lawyers recommended to the President by the Judicial Service Commission in January.

Mrs Muigai has been a chief magistrate for more than 15 years.

Her husband, Prof Muigai sits at the JSC in his capacity as Attorney General.

TAKE EFFECT FROM JULY 1

Also appointed are Bwonwong’a Justus Momanyi, Onguto Joseph Louis Omondi, Aburill Roselyne Ekirapa, Enock Chacha Mwita, Robert Kipkoech Limo, Mutungi Charles Kariuki, Mrima Anthony Charo, Janet Nzilani Mulwa, Nagillah Crispin Beda and Farah Amin Shaikh Mohamed.

The new appointments take effect from July 1, but the date for their swearing-in is yet to be made public.

The fate of the 14 remaining however hangs in the balance after a statement from the President said that he would either give his approval or disapproval once he goes through the entire list.

The remaining are former Nairobi chief magistrate Waweru Kiarie, Olga Akech Sewe, Stephen Riech, Patrick Otieno Okwaro, Winfrida Adhiambo Okwany, Anthony Kimani Ndung’u, Mugure Thande, Margaret Njoki Mwangi Githinji Stephen Murugu, Dorah O. Chepkwony, Ongeri Asenath Nyaboke, Njuguna Lucy Mwihaki and Mativo Mutinga John.
