Government invests Sh6bn in youth programmes

More than Sh6 billion has been invested in youth empowerment programmes, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Sicily Kariuki has said.
Ms Kariuki said that through the National Youth Service, the money had been paid directly to youths in 172 constituencies who have opened about 400 savings and credit cooperative societies.
"To date, we have invested Sh6 billion that has gone directly to the young people.
"We are currently in 172 constituencies and our intention is to go to all the 290 constituencies in the coming financial year," the said.
EMPLOYMENT
Speaking during the launch of the Youth Empowerment Programme in Galole, Tana River County, on Friday, she said the programme has enable youths get employment.
"The programme has employed about 3,000 young people in Galole, Bura and Garsen constituencies," Ms Kariuki said.
The cabinet secretary said she hoped that by the time the programme ends, thousands of youths would have started their own businesses in order to sustain their livelihoods.
RE-ELECT UHURU
The CS cautioned the youths against leaders who criticise government projects for no good reasons.
She urged the residents to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta on account of their "good development record".
She was accompanied by Governor Hussein Dado, Bura MP Ali Wario and his Galole counterpart Hassan Dukicha.
