The Director of Medical Services, Dr Nicholas Muraguri, has said the national polio vaccination exercise will go on as scheduled

"The vaccine is safe and that is why my three-year-(old) … daughter will be immunised,” he said on Wednesday.

"We cannot engage in politics, which is endangering (the) lives of children" Dr Muraguri told stakeholders at Silver Springs Hotel in Nairobi.

He also asked those resisting the vaccine to back their claims with facts.

He appealed to parents to come out in large numbers to have their children immunised.

The Catholic Church on Tuesday opposed the polio immunisation campaign and called for testing of the vaccine.

Catholic bishops asked the ministry to postpone the polio vaccination campaign until “we can assure Kenyans of their safety”.

The vaccination drive is set to start in two days.
