The Government will on Tuesday launch a report on how its departments are using social media as the world marks Social Media Day.

The Director of Digital Media in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi said newly launched government communications unit "Nexus" audited 260 departments.

“It’s sad to say that most departments are barely on the internet. We should have websites that are not only good to look at but also work,” he said.

He said the government was elected on a digital platform but only 10 per cent departments are active on social media.

Mr Itumbi said departments that have social media pages mostly use them to post messages but are rarely interactive in terms of engaging with users to respond to queries.

He said the government has set up a social media desk that will monitor queries to all departments to ensure they are responded to.
