Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo now faces expulsion from The National Alliance Party (TNA) over gross misconduct, the party's disciplinary committee has ruled.

Ms Gwendo, who was facing disciplinary action in what the committee said was showing disrespect to the Kisumu branch, stands suspended with immediate effect.

The findings of the committee were released on August 28 and signed by Dr Washington Makodingo, Mr Kamau Mugwa, Mr Johnson Omboga, Mr Robert Wanga and Ms Sheila Mutunga.

Accordingly, Ms Gwendo was de-whipped from all Senate committees.

Trouble for the senator started in May, when the Kisumu County TNA branch announced it had expelled her from the party over gross misconduct.

Officials from the branch said they had instructed the party to recall her nomination.

WORKING WITH RIVALS

The branch coordinator, Mr Juma Midigo, said the party decided to expel her because she was not working with the party but with their rivals.

“We are asking that procedures should be followed to recall her back because she is not propagating the party’s ideals”, said Midigo.

TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja confirmed receiving the decision of the disciplinary committee but was quick to add that it was not final.

“The decisions are not final and shall be reviewed to ensure justice and fairness.

“All the cases that were finalised over the past two weeks will be reviewed as per the constitution of the party,” said Mr Sakaja.
