Apologise to the Maasai and we may let you off, Waititu told

Former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu addresses journalists outside the Imara Daima chief's office June 22, 2011. The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko (DPP) on August 26, 2013 indicated that he may withdraw the case of hate speech against Mr Waititu if he makes a public apology to the Maasai community.

The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko (DPP) may withdraw the case of hate speech against the former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu if he apologises to the Maasai community.

The DPP sent an official to the court saying charges against the former MP will be withdrawn if he apologised.

Mr Waititu said through his lawyer that he had met the elders of the community and that he plans to make a public apology.

The DPP had ordered the arrest of former MP for alleged incitement and hate speech against the Maasai community.

This was as a result of parts of a speech made by Mr Waititu reacting to the killing of a child, allegedly by a Maasai security guard.
