Five family members died in a house fire at Kianda in Meru County.
Kianda chief Geoffrey Mwangi said the cause of the fire that broke out at 3am and razed the six-roomed house was yet to be established.
The inferno killed a couple and their three children.
"We suspect the fire started from inside the house. The cause is yet to be established. We found a stove in the bedroom of the couple.
"There were two generators and two gas cylinders in the house.
"However, the gas cylinders did not explode," Mr Mwangi said.
He added that police have started investigating the tragedy.
