Hunt on for Dandora gang that killed ex-policeman

Police are looking for members of a gang operating in Dandora and suspected of shooting dead a former CID officer in Lang'ata on Monday morning.

The AK-47-wielding gang of five attacked Mr Moses Muchangi at 11.39am and shot him in the right hip and cheek.

Mr Muchangi was a director at Rasasi Investment, which operates a fleet of matatus called "Rasasi" that ply Langata Road.

Investigations into the killing have been taken over by a team of detectives headed by Nairobi County Criminal Investigations Officer Nicholas Kamwende.

Detectives have taken four spent cartridges collected at the scene for ballistic examination.

Mr Muchangi, 40, is a licensed firearm holder, but he had left the gun in his car at the time of the attack.

Eyewitnesses told police that the former officer was confronted by an unarmed man, who tried to grab the Sh2 million he was carrying from Queens Mall, Otiende shopping centre.

He hit the man on the face, prompting his accomplices, who had remained in the getaway car, to shoot Mr Muchangi two times.

He was rushed to Karen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Muchangi joined the police service in 1997 and worked at the Police Dog Unit. He was later transferred to the Banking Fraud Investigations Department as a driver.

It was not immediately established why the wealthy officer resigned from the service.

Detectives have also reviewed CCTV footage captured by one of the cameras in the building. The video shows the getaway car as a silver Toyota with registration number KBW 907H,
