I owe no one any list, Duale speaks on terror suspects list

National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale Saturday broke his silence on the controversial list of al-Shabab sympathisers saying he owes nobody a list.

Speaking in Garissa town during an Uwezo funds event, Mr Duale said the region's leaders made actionable recommendations to President Uhuru Kenyatta and that they will work closely with the government to fight terrorists.

“As northern Kenya leaders, we have a responsibility to lead our people in working to make sure we fight al-Shabaab and we have made serious actionable recommendations to the President which are being implemented,” he said.

Mr Duale said the appointment of Saleh Mohammed as the regional security coordinator was one of the recommendations they gave to the President.

PLAYING POLITICS

“We are not playing politics, we are not answerable to anybody and we don’t owe anybody any form of a list, as the leadership we will work with the security agencies to make sure the region and Kenya is safe from al-Shabaab,” he said amidst applauds.

Gunmen suspected to be members of al-Shabaab stormed Garissa University College killing 148 people, many of them students of the institution.

This led Mr Duale and other leaders from the region to come together where they promised to reveal a list of al-Shabaab partners from the region.

Ijara member of parliament Ahmed Ibrahim Abass said the militant group based in Somalia has now become desperate, which is the reason they are now targeting villagers.

“We are also telling the Cabinet Secretary for Interior to leave politics for politicians and if he wants politics let him step aside,” he added.

The function was also attended nominated MP Abdinoor Mohamed, Abdikadir Ore (Wajir west) and other government officials.
