Church leaders have condemned the bitter exchanges between politicians regarding Deputy President William Ruto’s ICC case in The Hague.

On Monday, the leaders said the utterances by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who has linked opposition leader Raila Odinga and former Gichugu MP Martha Karua to the cases, are dangerous for the country.

Father Ambrose Kimutai of the Segemik Parish, Kericho Catholic Archdiocese, accused Mr Kuria of engaging Kenyans on “non-issues”.

He said Mr Kuria “should have come out earlier regarding the matter”.

“Those pointing fingers at Mr Odinga should be reminded that the country did not go the way of 2007/08 in 2013 because President Kenyatta and his deputy reconciled their communities perfectly,” he said.

Bishop Joshua Koyo, the head of the Episcopal Church in Kenya, said leaders should not take Kenyans back to the days of hate.

“What happens to the people who suffered?

“It is in bad taste for the MP to talk carelessly,” he said.
