IG Joseph Boinnet issues strict rules on armoured vehicles

What you need to know:

  • Any importation of such vehicles must be done in strict compliance with the law.
  • Mr Boinnet however did not say the action to be taken against those who own such vehicles after declaration.

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has directed the owners of armoured vehicles to immediately declare to his office and the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Mr Boinnet however did not say the action to be taken against those who own such vehicles after declaration.

“All persons who possess armoured vehicles must therefore with immediate effect, declare to the Inspector General, National Police Service and the Kenya Revenue Authority for action,” he indicated in an advert in the local dailies.

The Security Laws (Amendment) Act 2014 requires that no person should manufacture, assemble, purchase or acquire an armoured vehicle without a certificate of approval Act.

“Similarly, any importation of such vehicles must be done in strict compliance with the law,” he added.
