Interior CS Nkaissery intervenes in Uber, taxi drivers feud

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has directed his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho to convene a meeting between taxi drivers and the management of new entrant Uber.
Mr Nkaissery asked the PS to resolve the stalemate between the two groups before it escalates.
He said the issues raised by the groups should be addressed to come up with a lasting solution.
On Wednesday, taxi operators asked the government to intervene in the dispute, claiming Uber was driving them out of business
The Interior Ministry had on Tuesday vowed to protect drivers threatened for embracing the technology offered by Uber, an American mobile taxi-hailing company.
“The police have launched investigations into the cause and nature of these attacks and will ensure that those behind the attacks will face the full wrath of the law,” Interior Ministry’s spokesman Mwenda Njoka had said in a statement.
Mr Nkaissery, speaking at the Kenya School of Government when he met county and regional commissioners on Thursday, said urgent intervention was needed to the resolve the standoff.
