A warrant for the arrest of Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo was issued Thursday after he failed to appear in court.

Mr Iringo was required in court to “show cause why” he should not be sent to jail for refusing to sanction a Sh727,706 compensation award for a police officer shot by a colleague while on duty and later dismissed after being charged with theft.

The 1987 incident has dragged on in court since retired judge David Rimita ordered the payment to Mr Mwanza Mukoma, who until he was dismissal was a constable.

Mr Mukoma pursued the damages in vain and was forced to file an application in court to secure the attendance of the PS—to show cause why he could not be compensated.

A notice asking Mr Iringo to attend court was issued on December 30, 2013. But when the case came up for hearing, the PS was absent. The case will be heard on February 13.
