Judge gives John Githongo ‘last chance’ in Anglo Leasing case

Former anti-corruption chief John Githongo has been given the last chance to take part in the translation of an Anglo Leasing recordings or the process will go on without him.

Mr Justice David Onyancha issued the order on Monday after former Internal Security minister Christopher Murungaru accused Mr Githongo of not cooperating as earlier directed by the court.

Dr Murungaru, through lawyers Kioko Kilukumi and Esmael Abas, told the court that Mr Githongo had in the last five months failed to show up for the translation and “gives excuses that he is either unwell or out of the country.”

DEFAMATION SUIT

But Mr Githongo, through lawyer Andrew Wandabwa, said he had tried to resolve the issues Dr Murungaru wanted settled.

The judge directed that Mr Githongo should be given a final chance.

“If not translated and the fault is Mr Githongo’s, the cross-examination will proceed,” said Justice Onyancha.

Dr Murungaru sued Mr Githongo nine years ago for defamation over secret recordings on the scandal.

The country lost billions in the Anglo Leasing scandal.
