Slain Eldoret-based journalist John Kituyi was on Saturday laid to rest in Naitiri, Bungoma County.

Mourners eulogised Mr Kituyi, who ran the Mirror Weekly, a regional newspaper, as a humble and polite man who mentored many people.

Mr Kituyi was shot dead as he walked to his house in Pioneer Estate by assailants on a boda boda. Leaders said they would move a petition in Parliament to push for the arrest of those behind Kituyi’s death.

“Once the National Assembly resumes its sittings after recess, I will personally move a petition on behalf of the family and my Tongaren Constituency so that the committee on security can start investigating the death,” said area MP Dr Eseli Simiyu.

“His death will not go unravelled,” the Tongaren MP added.

His sentiments were echoed by his Kiminini counterpart Chris Wamalwa who said he will join forces with Mr Simiyu to push the Asman Kamama led committee to probe the reporter’s killing.

Bungoma Woman Rep Reginilda Wanyonyi called for the protection of journalists saying that no country can stand firm without media freedom.
