Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman Joseph Kaguthi has been sued in a dispute over ownership of land valued at Sh12 million.

Ms Lucy Macharia, a widow, claims that her plots in Ruai, Nairobi, were fraudulently allocated to a third party.

She filed the suit after an Administration Police officer laid a claim to the same property, saying, he bought it from Mr Kaguthi, this year.

However, the widow says she acquired it in 1991 from the Embakasi Ranching Company Limited after complying with all the conditions for allocation, having been a shareholder.

“The said property from which my plots were excised was duly surveyed and subdivided,” she says in a document filed on Tuesday at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi. “I was shown my plots, whereby I took immediate possession.”

The woman further seeks compensation for special damages after agents destroyed structures she had built on the land, on April 21 and August 2, despite a restraining order.

She said she was apprehensive that the destruction of her property was intended to create a false impression that the plot was vacant to pave the way for fraudulent acquisition.

The hearing will be on September 17.
