HOSPITAL DOCUMENTS

The attacker was found with documents in his pockets indicating that he had been undergoing treatment at the Mathari (mental) Hospital for the last three years.

He also had some coins, an ID waiting card issued in Limuru last month and a set of keys.

A witness said when Mr Ndirangu slashed Constable Benson Kiprono on the head and on the left shoulder, the officer tried to shield himself with his hands, but the assailant kept hitting him with the machete.

That was when he opened fire.
