Joseph Nkaissery to be sworn in on Wednesday

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Wednesday witness the swearing in of Major General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government.

The ceremony will be held at State House Nairobi.

Mr Nkaissery will then head to his Harambee office where the outgoing CS Joseph ole Lenku will hand over to him.

Mr Nkaissey will address the media where he is expected to make major policy announcements.

During his vetting, Nkaissery said he would not tolerate incompetence and laziness while in charge.

Mr Nkaissery told a vetting committee that the security agencies must be headed by people who are “bold, courageous and stand by what is right”.

“We don’t want intimidation. People must work. They are paid to work. If they don’t work they must take a walk.”

He was responding to Mr Ibrahim Abass (Ijara, ODM) who wanted to know whether he would rely on his military experience to control the heads of security agencies he will oversee.

Mr Abass was referring to the apparent inability of his predecessor, Mr Joseph ole Lenku, to rein in the heads of the security agencies, all of more experienced in security matters than him.

“I have no problem in ensuring that these people do their job,” Mr Nkaissery said when asked what he would do to enhance the capacity of the National Intelligence Service.

“My vision, if I am given this job, is to have a very highly disciplined, versatile and robust police service,” he said.
